Lot 348:
An extensive collection of Denby Shamrock pattern stoneware dinner and tea wares
Description
A comprehensive service of vintage stoneware manufactured by Denby Pottery, Derbyshire, England, in the popular Shamrock pattern. The collection features a characteristic cream-coloured speckled glaze decorated with hand-painted or lithographed stylised wildflower and clover motifs in a palette of olive green and earthy browns. The service comprises a wide variety of forms including multiple dinner plates, luncheon plates, side plates, soup or cereal bowls, two oval serving platters, and a large rectangular covered casserole dish. The tea and coffee service includes a teapot with lid, two graduated cream jugs, and a large quantity of mugs, some of which feature a contrasting solid dark brown interior glaze, accompanied by a stack of coordinating chocolate brown glazed saucers. Each piece reflects the robust, functional aesthetic of British Mid-Century Modern design. The undersides bear the blue printed factory mark reading DENBY / MADE IN ENGLAND along with various numerical production codes. Dinner plates approximately 25cm diameter; teapot approximately 18cm height.
