Chinese Export, Canton Famille Rose Celadon Glazed Plates, Late 19th Century
Description
A pair of graduated Chinese export porcelain plates, each featuring a pale celadon glaze ground. The decoration is hand-painted in the Famille Rose palette, depicting a variety of colourful birds amongst flowering branches, butterflies, and traditional floral motifs including peonies and lotus blossoms. Each plate is finished with a simple iron-red rim. The items are presented on black plastic display stands. The smaller plate retains a previous auction sticker for Shelbys Auctioneers, Lot 290. Large plate diameter 25 cm, small plate diameter 18 cm.
