Lot 95:
A Late Victorian Faux-Bamboo and Marble-Topped Washstand
Description
A late Victorian washstand featuring a thick white marble top with grey veining. The top is fitted with a three-sided stepped gallery comprising a back splash and two side splashes. The base is constructed from a stained timber, possibly pine, with the four legs featuring faux-bamboo simulated turning. Each leg terminates in a brass caster with a ceramic or metal wheel. The front frieze is fitted with two short drawers, each having two turned wooden knobs. The design reflects the Aesthetic Movement style popular in British furniture during the late 19th century. A small white adhesive label is present on the front edge of the marble.
