A Trio of Art Deco Style Mottled Glaze Ceramic Vases and Candlesticks
Description
A trio of decorative ceramic art pottery items comprising a pair of tall candlesticks and a bulbous twin-handled vase. Each piece is finished in a variegated mottled glaze featuring a palette of turquoise, sea-foam green, and cobalt blue, with ochre-coloured sponged accents. The tall candlesticks feature a flared circular base, a slender tapering neck with a distinctive ruffled collar, and a flared rim. The vase has a globular body with two small loop handles at the shoulder and a wide, flared wavy rim. The forms and glaze technique are characteristic of mid-20th-century British art pottery, such as that produced by Beswick or Empire Ware. The unglazed base of the larger vase reveals a pale cream earthenware body with indistinct pencil marks and a vertical streak of green pigment; no factory stamps or signatures are clearly legible. A small white adhesive label marked 5988 is present on the body of the vase.
