A Collection of Transfer-Printed Ceramic Plates Featuring Fairytale and Naturalist Bird Designs
Description
A collection of glazed ceramic plates, comprising several series with transfer-printed decoration. One group features plates with broad, lustrous brown or gilt borders encircling central circular vignettes. These vignettes include figural scenes depicting motifs from the fairytales of Hans Christian Andersen, as well as various bird studies such as a peacock. This series is attributed to Royal Copenhagen. A further stack of plates features scalloped or notched rims with a fine black-line border, decorated with naturalist bird illustrations accompanied by descriptive script, including a blackbird; this style is consistent with naturalist series such as Birds of Britain. The collection is accompanied by a small stack of associated booklets or descriptive ephemera. A small adhesive inventory label numbered 9754 is present on the central stack. No manufacturer backstamps or maker’s marks are visible in the provided image.
