A late Victorian Carolean Revival carved oak side chair
Description
A single late 19th-century side chair in the Carolean Revival style, constructed from dark-stained oak. The high backrest features an ornate pierced splat carved with scrolling foliate and crown motifs, set between barley-twist stiles with turned finials and acanthus leaf carving at the shoulders. The rectangular drop-in seat is upholstered in a deep red velvet-style fabric. The chair stands on barley-twist front legs and square-section raked back legs, all united by a barley-twist front stretcher and H-frame lower stretchers.
