Victorian Style Cast Iron Fireplace Insert
Description
A late 19th or early 20th-century cast iron fireplace insert or fire basket. The piece is constructed from sand-cast iron and features a characteristic Victorian horseshoe arch. The decorative front panel is adorned with intricate high-relief casting, including a central scallop shell motif at the lower centre, which transitions into scrolling acanthus foliage and floral patterns. The assembly is supported by four integrated cast legs with foliate and scroll-work decoration. The interior features side plates and a slatted bottom grate. There are no clearly visible maker marks or foundry stamps, although an illegible small white label is located on the interior left side.
