Victorian Style Ornate Cast Metal Dressing Table Mirror Surmounted by a Sailing Ship
Description
A late 19th or early 20th-century ornate cast metal dressing table mirror, designed in the Neo-Rococo style. The rectangular mirror plate is set within a highly decorative openwork frame. The casting features intricate scrolling acanthus leaves, C-scrolls, and four putti positioned around the frame. A distinctive feature is the pediment, which is surmounted by a relief of a three-masted sailing ship. The frame is finished with a dark brown patina, showing lighter highlights on the raised portions of the design consistent with handled wear. The piece is designed to be free-standing, supported by two wide, outspread scrolling feet. No maker’s marks or foundry stamps are visible on the front of the object. A white auction lot sticker is present on the mirror glass.
