Description
This large-format folio pulpit Bible, dated 1856, is bound in full black grain leather with blind-stamped decorative borders. The front board features gilt-stamped lettering reading ST. PETERS, NOTTING HILL, 1856. in the centre, with further text in the lower right corner stating PRESENTED BY THE SOCIETY FOR PROMOTING CHRISTIAN KNOWLEDGE. The volume includes the Old Testament, the Apocrypha, and the New Testament. The interior contains a page titled THE NAMES AND ORDER OF ALL THE BOOKS OF THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENT, WITH THE NUMBER OF THEIR CHAPTERS. The binding reflects its history as a presentation volume for St Peters church in Notting Hill.
