A Pair of Royal Satsuma Style Porcelain Baluster Vases
Description
A pair of porcelain baluster-form vases, featuring flared and ruffled rims with gilded edges. Each vase is decorated in the Royal Satsuma style, characterised by a cream-coloured crackle glaze ground and elaborate polychrome enamel decoration with extensive gilded highlights. One vase depicts a landscape scene featuring flowering branches, including peonies and cherry blossoms, set against a mountain backdrop. The second vase displays a narrative scene with several figures in traditional Japanese dress positioned near a pavilion within a garden landscape. The necks and lower sections of both vases are embellished with interlocking geometric diaper patterns, floral motifs, and circular mon-style emblems. No maker marks or signatures are visible.
