Victorian Majolica Nautilus Shell and Fish Centrepiece
Description
A large Victorian-style Majolica glazed earthenware centrepiece featuring a naturalistically modelled nautilus shell with a ribbed cream and brown exterior and a vibrant turquoise-glazed interior. The shell is supported by a stem of three intertwined fish with grey-green bodies and pink fins coiled around green seaweed. The ensemble is mounted on a circular flared base with a brown and yellow studded border. The turquoise-glazed underside displays several indistinct impressed marks, including three circular indentations and a faint rectangular mark, which are not clearly legible.
Height: 34 cm (13.5 inches).
