Description
British School, 19th Century. A Victorian oil on board pastoral scene depicting cattle in a rural landscape. The composition features a central brown and white cow standing in profile beneath a tree, with a recumbent dark cow and a standing brown cow to the right. Further livestock are visible in the hazy background under a cloudy sky. The work is executed in a provincial style typical of the period, with attention to the textures of the animals coats. The painting is housed in an ornate gilt composition frame decorated with scrolling foliate and shell motifs. A small adhesive tag marked 9702 is adhered to the lower member of the frame.
