Two Mid-20th Century Vanity Cases with Integrated Propelling Pencils
Description
This lot consists of two mid-century vanity cases featuring integrated writing instruments. The first item is a rectangular case bound in green textured leather with silver-toned metal trim. It features a cylindrical sleeve mounted to the side which contains a small propelling pencil. A green silk tassel is attached to a metal loop at the top of the case. The second item is a gold-toned metal necessaire with an engine-turned geometric finish and a flexible mesh wrist strap. The interior is fitted with a mirror, a hinged powder compartment, and a holder for a slim gold-toned propelling pencil. The design of the gold-toned case is in the style of mid-century manufacturers such as Volupte. No maker marks are visible on the metal bodies of either piece. A lot sticker numbered 501 is present on the gold-toned case, and handwritten notations are visible on paper inserts within the interiors.
