A French Model 1874 Gras Pattern Sword Bayonet
Description
This item is a French Model 1874 Gras pattern sword bayonet, intended for use with the 11mm Model 1874 Gras rifle. The steel blade features a T-back cross-section with a wide, flat spine designed for structural rigidity. The hilt is composed of a steel crossguard with an integrated muzzle ring and a forward-curving hooked quillon. The grip scales are made of dark-stained wood and are fastened with two steel rivets. The pommel is fashioned from brass in a bird’s-head shape and contains a spring-loaded press-stud and mounting slot. A small white inventory sticker with the handwritten digits 8814 is attached to the blade near the guard. No historical maker names, dates, or serial numbers are discernible in the images. The original steel scabbard is not present.
