Description
A vintage British military-style wooden transit chest or footlocker. The exterior is constructed from wood finished in black paint and reinforced with metal straps at the corners and edges. The interior is finished in a contrasting bright red paint. The lid features prominent white stencilled markings identifying the owner as J. T. Atkinson with the service number 5081578. The address is stencilled below as Acres Hall Farm, Pudsey, (Near Leeds), Yorkshire, England. Further stencilled markings on the lower left of the lid record the dimensions and weight. The front of the chest displays a large stencilled number 377. The chest is equipped with robust metal hinges and a central front hasp for a padlock. The weight is recorded in the imperial system as 0 hundredweight, 1 quarter, and 16 pounds, totalling 44 pounds.
