French Third Republic Médaille Militaire
Description
A French Third Republic Médaille Militaire (Military Medal). This award consists of a circular silver-toned laurel wreath encircling a central gold-toned medallion. The obverse depicts the profile of Ceres, the personification of the French Republic, within a blue enamel border inscribed REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE 1870. The reverse features a central field inscribed VALEUR ET DISCIPLINE. The medal is suspended from a metal trophy of arms device comprising a cuirass over crossed cannons, axes, and a sword. It is fitted with its original yellow silk ribbon featuring green borders. The item is presented in a clear plastic sleeve with a handwritten label reading FRENCH MEDAILLE MILITAIRE and an adhesive tag numbered 9703.
