Lot 259:
A Collection of Hand Painted British 18th Century Military Miniature Figures
Description
This collection of hand-painted military miniatures depicts 18th-century British infantry, consistent with the uniforms of the Seven Years War or the American War of Independence. The figures represent a British Army colour party and officers. They are attired in traditional red coats with cream or white facings, white breeches, and black tricorn hats. The collection includes ensigns carrying colours: the King’s Colour (pre-1801 Union Flag) and yellow Regimental Colours featuring the Union canton. Also featured is an officer with a drawn sword and separate espontoon, a non-commissioned officer or sergeant carrying a halberd, and infantrymen in various poses, including some in grenadier-style mitre caps. The figures are mounted on textured scenic bases depicting grass and soil. The flags appear to be constructed from a stiffened material, likely thin metal or fabric, with gold-coloured tassel details. A small white paper tag with the handwritten numbers 970 is attached to one figure. No manufacturer marks are visible on the upper portions of the figures or the bases shown.
