A Queen Anne style red japanned and chinoiserie kneehole writing table
Description
This rectangular writing table features a traditional red japanned finish with gilt-heightened chinoiserie decoration. The top surface depicts a broad landscape scene with figures and pagodas within a decorative border. The frieze is fitted with two short drawers, each with a brass pull, flanking a central kneehole with a decoratively shaped arch. The table is supported by four turned legs with bulbous elements, joined by a low-set, shaped flat stretcher, and terminating in small feet. The decoration includes various floral motifs and figures in oriental-style landscapes throughout the front and sides. A small, illegible white label is affixed to the top front edge.
