A replica French Second Empire style infantry shako
Description
This item is a modern replica of a French infantry shako designed in the style of the Second Empire period under Napoleon III. The body is constructed from black fabric and features red wool piping and decorative bands at the upper and lower margins. The front is adorned with a stamped gilt brass shako plate depicting an Imperial eagle with outspread wings perched upon a thunderbolt. The rectangular plaque at the base of the eagle is stamped with the numeral 1, representing the 1st Infantry Regiment. Positioned above the plate is a circular tricolour cockade in the French national colours of red, white, and blue. The headgear is further embellished with a tall black feather plume and white braided cords with hanging tassels. A pair of gilt metal chin scales are present and secured in the raised position across the front of the body. A modern inventory label bearing the digits 4703 is attached to the display stand.
