George V Sterling Silver Sauce Boat by Smith and Bartlam Birmingham 1914
Description
A George V sterling silver sauce boat or cream jug designed in the Georgian revival style. The vessel features a scalloped rim and a flying scroll handle, supported by three cabriole legs with shell-moulded knees and hoof feet. The side of the body is struck with a full set of English hallmarks including the maker mark S & B for Smith and Bartlam, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the lowercase date letter p for 1914. An internal label identifies the item as 92 grams silver.
