Description

An original vintage railway advertising poster for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER), promoting travel to Scarborough. The artwork, signed by W. Smithson Broadhead (1888-1960) in the lower left, depicts a man and woman in 1930s attire on a balcony overlooking the South Cliff area and promenade. The poster features the title SCARBOROUGH in large white sans-serif lettering, accompanied by the slogan IT’S QUICKER BY RAIL. Additional text at the bottom includes FULL INFORMATION FROM L.N.E.R OFFICES AND AGENCIES. The lower right margin contains the printed text P.R. 1937 – DEPARTMENT OF TOURIST AND AMENITIES, SCARBOROUGH and references to the SCARBOROUGH ART GALLERY. The word SCARBOROUGH is also printed vertically in the upper right background. The poster is printed on paper and is presented in a modern frame under glass.
