A George III sterling silver stuffing spoon in the Old English pattern. The spoon features a long, tapering handle with a rounded terminal. The front of the terminal is engraved with a crest depicting a dexter hand couped at the wrist grasping a serpent. The reverse of the handle is struck with a full set of London hallmarks. The maker’s mark is a literal transcription EB within a rectangular punch, attributed to the silversmith Elizabeth Bateman. The standard mark is the lion passant, indicating .925 sterling silver. The assay office mark is the crowned leopard’s head for London. The date letter is a capital M for 1807. The duty mark is the sovereign’s head of George III in profile facing right.
