Description
This rectangular Chinese carpet is constructed with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, following an Aubusson-inspired design. The central field is a seafoam green, dominated by a large ivory-ground oval medallion featuring a multi-coloured floral bouquet. This central motif is mirrored by four smaller floral cartouches at each corner, all interconnected by scrolling foliate and floral swags. The carpet is framed by a complex, multi-layered border. An inner cream-coloured border with a continuous floral vine is followed by a broader outer border featuring ornate scrollwork and additional floral sprays in shades of rose, peach, blue, and sage green. The pile is thick and dense, with hand-sculpted detailing around the floral elements to provide depth and texture.
