A Replica British 1878 Pattern Foreign Service Helmet for the 24th Regiment of Foot
Description
This item is a replica of a British Army Foreign Service Helmet (FSH) of the 1878 pattern, specifically styled for the 24th Regiment of Foot. The helmet is constructed from a pith or cork core covered in a light-coloured woven cloth. It features the characteristic tall, conical profile of Victorian-era tropical headgear. Mounted to the front is a brass helmet plate consisting of an eight-pointed star surmounted by a crown. The central garter bears the motto Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense and surrounds the regimental number 24. The helmet is fitted with a brown leather chinstrap featuring a rectangular metal buckle and is topped with a cloth-covered zinc vent button. This pattern of headgear is famously associated with British infantry during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879.
Length: Approximately 30 cm.
