Description

A collection of earthenware vessels and tea wares decorated in the Gaudy Welsh style. The group includes a large octagonal-bodied jug featuring a hydra-style handle, several graduated cream and milk jugs in various forms including bulbous and baluster shapes, a teacup with a matching saucer, and a further small saucer or plate. The decoration consists of hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron red and green enamels, often finished with copper or pink lustre highlights in floral and foliate motifs. Several pieces feature personalised commemorative inscriptions in cursive script. The large octagonal jug is inscribed with the name William. A smaller white-ground jug bears the inscription Mary, Born June, 18… and the place name Bingley. A third jug is inscribed Born, November, 185…. No manufacturer marks are visible on the exterior surfaces.
