A Collection of Five Decorative Ceramic and Glass Items including Withernsea Pottery Fauna Vase and Royal Winton
Description
This varied collection of decorative arts comprises five distinct pieces of mid-20th century ceramics and glass. The primary piece is a Withernsea Pottery “Fauna” vase, crafted in Eastgate, England. This earthenware vase features a naturalistic relief-moulded tree trunk form, decorated with two fawns at the base and polychrome floral accents. It bears the printed maker’s mark “WITHERNSEA POTTERY EASTGATE ENGLAND FAUNA” to the underside. Accompanying this is a Royal Winton (Grimwades) ceramic pot, likely a coffee or teapot, finished in a solid chocolate-brown glaze with a matching lid. The lot also includes a teal-blue hand-blown art glass “handkerchief” vase, characterised by its deeply ruffled and undulating rim. For the nursery, there is a ceramic child’s bowl featuring a transfer-printed illustration of Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit and family, surrounded by a running rabbit border. Completing the collection is a Japanese porcelain dish decorated in the traditional Imari palette of underglaze blue and overglaze iron-red and gilt, featuring a scalloped rim and a red character mark to the base. Withernsea vase height approx. 21.5cm, child’s bowl diameter approx. 15cm, Royal Winton pot height approx. 15cm.
