Lot 220:
A Collection of Decorative Wooden Boxes and Curios, Including an Asian-Style Lacquered Chest and Musical Jewellery Box, Mid to Late 20th Century
Description
This varied collection comprises several decorative storage and novelty items. The primary piece is a substantial black-lacquered jewellery chest, featuring traditional gold-painted Asian motifs including landscapes and architectural elements. The chest opens to reveal multiple tiered compartments lined in vibrant blue velvet, secured with ornate metal hardware. Accompanying this is a light-toned wooden musical jewellery box, decorated with an intricate floral inlay to the lid; the interior contains a miniature ballerina figure and a mechanical movement. The lot further includes a smaller dark-wood rectangular box with a simple hinged lid, a handheld wooden maraca hand-painted with Cuba on the bulb, and a small black-painted wooden stool or display stand featuring a colourful, dotted lizard or gecko design in a folk-art style. Completing the collection is a set of small illustrated coasters or tiles depicting various architectural scenes, housed within a fitted wooden holder. These items represent a range of mid to late 20th-century decorative crafts and souvenirs. The largest chest measures approximately 30cm in width.
