Heinz Warneke (1895-1983), A Modernist Cast Stone Sculpture of a Sleeping Puma
Description
An American Modernist cast stone or composite masonry sculpture of a sleeping puma, after the design by Heinz Warneke (1895-1983). The large cat is depicted in a naturalistic, curled pose with its head resting upon its paws and its tail tucked against the body. The piece is rendered in a light beige composite material with a textured surface characteristic of moulded masonry. Warneke was a celebrated sculptor known for his animalier subjects and was a leading proponent of the direct carving movement; this piece reflects his signature stylised yet organic approach to form. The sculpture exhibits a weathered patina consistent with outdoor display. Dimensions unavailable.
