Gilt-washed base metal, Collection of Decorative Jewellery and Trinket Boxes, featuring Enamel, Pietra Dura, and Mother-of-Pearl
Description
This diverse collection comprises nine decorative trinket and pill boxes showcasing various ornamental techniques and materials. The assortment includes a rectangular white stone box featuring a green and blue floral pietra dura inlay, a circular blue enamel-on-metal box with a hand-painted pastoral scene and gilt-coloured scrollwork, and a rectangular porcelain box with green borders and floral motifs. Other items in the group consist of a box with a geometric mother-of-pearl inlay, a small cylindrical box with a figural scene on the lid, and several rectangular boxes made of wood, composite, or bone-like material with varying surface treatments such as bas-relief carving and geometric patterns. The metal hinges and rims appear to be base metal or gilt-washed metal; no hallmarks or purity stamps are visible. The pieces generally show a level of craftsmanship consistent with mid-to-late 20th-century decorative collectibles. The largest oval box measures approximately 11 cm in length, with the smallest circular box measuring approximately 3 cm in diameter.
Condition report:
The collection is in fair to good condition. Visible surface wear and minor scuffing are present on the larger oval dark box. There is light tarnishing and oxidation consistent with age on the metal rims and hinges. All hinges appear to be functional. No significant chips or cracks are noted to the stone or porcelain elements.
