Description

A polished brass marine sextant featuring an unidentified maker’s mark on a silver-toned plate attached to the index arm. The instrument is constructed from solid brass with glass lenses and mirrors. It features a graduated arc scale ranging from 0 to 120 degrees. The sextant is housed in its original custom-fitted hardwood case, likely mahogany, which is lined with purple felt and secured with brass hinges and a front latch. The box currently bears a small inventory label numbered 6182. This piece represents a classic nautical navigational tool, likely produced as a functional decorative item in the late 20th century.

Condition report:

The instrument appears largely complete; however, one small brass thumb screw adjustment tool is currently detached and lying loose. The mechanical components, including the index arm and shade filters, appear to move freely on their pivoting mounts. Optical clarity of the mirrors and telescope lenses has not been professionally tested for alignment. The brass finish shows minor surface dulling and fingerprints consistent with handling. The wooden case is in good condition with minor scuffs to the exterior.
