Description

This lot comprises a collection of small, cast metal objects primarily of West African origin, accompanied by miscellaneous decorative brass pieces. The ethnographic items exhibit stylistic characteristics of the Akan people of Ghana and Ivory Coast, specifically the Ashanti goldweights known as mrammuo. The group includes several stylized human and animal figurines, a miniature stool, and a large ring featuring incised geometric patterns. These pieces are produced using the traditional lost-wax (cire perdue) casting method. Also included are various cast metal fragments and European or colonial-style decorative hardware, such as a thistle-shaped element, which appear to be sand-cast or die-cast. The collection likely dates to the 20th century, containing a mix of older traditional weights and more recent souvenir or decorative productions. An inventory label numbered 6182 is present on the tray.

Condition report:

The collection is in generally good condition, with all items appearing structurally intact. There is a varied patina across the lot; the large ring and several figurines show a dark, well-developed oxidation, while other pieces retain a brighter brass finish. Minor surface dirt, tarnish, and small spots of verdigris are present, consistent with age and handling.
