Lot 340:
Unmarked, Moroccan Koummya and Nepalese Kukri, Silver-toned Metal and Inlaid Wood
Description
A pair of handcrafted ethnographic fixed-blade knives. The first is a Moroccan Koummya with a curved steel blade and a silver-toned metal handle featuring ornate filigree work. It includes a matching embossed metal scabbard with a characteristic curved tip and suspension rings. The second is a small Nepalese Kukri with a forward-curved steel blade and a dark wood or horn handle decorated with circular white bone or metal inlays. No tang stamps or maker’s marks are present on either piece. Blade lengths: 7 inches and 4.5 inches.
Condition report:
The Koummya blade shows significant surface rust and heavy oxidisation. The metal hilt and scabbard exhibit a dark age-appropriate patina and minor surface wear. The Kukri blade has a heavy dark patina and signs of previous oxidisation. Both blades retain their original artisan edges but are not recently sharpened. The Kukri handle shows minor wear to the inlays and is missing its traditional scabbard.
