Lot 304:
A Late Victorian Silver-Plated Spirit Kettle on Stand
Description
An English silver-plated spirit kettle on a matching stand, dating to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period. The kettle features a compressed bulbous body with a plain polished finish and a slender curved spout. The high-arched handle is decorated with ornate scrolling mounts and fitted with a dark ebonised composite heat-insulating grip, matching the circular finial on the hinged lid. The kettle is suspended on a stand with four elegant scrolling legs terminating in pad feet, secured by two pins and a safety chain to allow for tilting. While no maker’s marks are immediately visible, the form and construction are characteristic of high-quality English silver plate from the turn of the 20th century. Height: approximately 34 cm.
Condition report:
The piece exhibits significant surface tarnish and oxidisation across the metalwork consistent with age. There is minor surface wear and light scratching from regular polishing. The ebonised grip and finial remain in good order without cracks. The tilting mechanism and safety chain are functional. The burner component is not clearly visible and may be absent from the set.
