An H&K Tunstall Hand-Painted Viola Pattern Ceramic Bowl, Circa 1930-1940
Description
A Hollinshead & Kirkham (H&K Tunstall) hand-painted earthenware bowl in the Viola pattern, dating to the Art Deco period. The shallow circular form is decorated with vibrant yellow and purple pansies amongst green foliage, set against a mottled autumnal ground of brown, cream, and purple washes. The bowl is finished with a dark-painted rim. The underside bears the black printed factory mark featuring a unicorn and reads Hand Painted VIOLA / MADE IN ENGLAND / H&K / TUNSTALL, accompanied by an artist signature and hand-painted numerals L96 and R. Diameter: approximately 23 cm (9 inches).
Condition report:
Presented in good overall condition with minor surface wear commensurate with age. There is characteristic production-related pitting to the glaze. No chips, cracks, or signs of restoration are evident.
