Description

A Victorian architectural-form mantel clock by Walton of 76 Cheapside, London. The case is constructed from black slate with contrasting reddish-brown variegated marble inlays to the pediment and stepped base. It features a white enamel dial with black Roman numeral hour markers, set within a gilt-brass bezel and protected by a glass cover. The dial is signed Walton 76 Cheapside London. The mechanical eight-day movement features two winding apertures and strikes the hours and half-hours on an external bell mounted to the side of the case. Base width approximately 26.5 cm (10.5 inches).

Condition report:

The clock is in an untested condition and its working status is unknown. The movement appears complete but would benefit from a professional service. The case shows minor wear consistent with age, including small nibbles to the sharp edges of the slate and marble. The dial is generally clean with some minor surface marks. The hands appear original. The winding key and pendulum are currently missing.
