A Chinese Republic Period Cloisonne Mounted Brass Box with Wood Lining
Description
A rectangular Chinese brass decorative box, dating to the Republic Period (circa 1912-1949). The exterior is decorated with an all-over incised wave or scale pattern and is further embellished with multiple cloisonne enamel inserts. The lid features a central rectangular plaque with a geometric and floral motif in shades of green, yellow, and blue, flanked by four circular red-ground plaques depicting blue floral sprays. The sides are inset with circular white-ground plaques featuring yellow blossoms. The box is fitted with a decorative hinged clasp and opens to reveal a dark-finished wood-lined interior, suitable for use as a humidor or jewellery casket. Dimensions: approximately 15 cm x 10.5 cm x 7 cm.
Condition report:
Presented in good antique condition. Minor surface wear and areas of oxidisation to the brass consistent with age and use. The enamel plaques remain well-preserved with no significant losses. Light scuffing to the interior wood lining.
