Vintage Gilt-Finished Coal Scuttle Box
Description
A vintage or antique lidded storage box, identified through market consensus as a coal scuttle or coal bucket box. The rectangular chest is constructed of wood or composite material and finished externally in a distressed gold or bronze metallic paint or gilt, mimicking the appearance of traditional brass coal scuttles. The front face features a decorative metal handle or escutcheon molded in the shape of a classical urn. The interior is hinged and lined with a material, likely metal, showing heavy signs of oxidation and rust-colored residue consistent with use as a coal storage vessel. A small, illegible white rectangular sticker is affixed below the handle on the front face.
