A Collection of 4 Vintage East Asian Hand-Painted Oil-Paper Parasols
Description
A collection of four vintage East Asian oil-paper parasols, likely Chinese in origin, constructed from oiled paper or thin silk stretched over wooden or bamboo ribs. The canopies are designed to be collapsible. Three of the four items feature polychrome, hand-painted decoration. The largest parasol displays large red and pink floral patterns on a pale green ground. A second decorated parasol features complex geometric and floral motifs mixed with solid orange panels and a central butterfly design. The third decorated item is partially obscured but shows green, blue, and red floral patterns. The fourth item is plain cream or natural paper. No maker’s marks or identifying text are visible on any of the items.
