Description
A collection of twenty-three items comprising ten pairs of antique and vintage opera glasses (Jumelles de théâtre), four associated storage cases, and nine loose metal components and parts. The viewing instruments feature diverse construction materials including brass, nickel-plated metal, and decorative finishes such as mother-of-pearl inlay (nacre), colored enamel wraps (pink and green), and hand-painted enamel barrels depicting romantic pastoral scenes. Other barrels utilize composition or faux ivory material, and some feature textured or ribbed metal finishes. The associated cases include two contoured leather examples, one woven light fiber or straw case with a brass clasp, and one smaller dark leatherette case. The loose components include lens rings, frames, and small metal pins or screws.
