Georgian Silkwork Picture of a Folk Scene in Distressed Frame
Description
A framed Georgian or Regency period silkwork picture. The artwork consists of a circular embroidered panel executed in various colored silk threads on a natural fabric ground. The scene depicts a folk genre or pastoral subject showing multiple figures dressed in traditional, densely colored clothing traversing a textured landscape, possibly a field or hillside. The circular embroidery is mounted within a square, light tan-colored mat and protected by glass. The piece is housed in a wooden frame featuring stepped, ribbed molding and a distressed, dark greenish-gray finish. A small white inventory sticker bearing the numbers 6182 is affixed to the lower right corner of the mat.
