An Italian 800 Silver and Enamel Courting Scene Box
Description
An oval-shaped hinged box, identified through web intelligence as Italian 800 silver and enamel. The lid is adorned with a central rectangular enamel plaque depicting a Rococo-style romantic or pastoral scene featuring a man and a woman in 18th-century attire. This central scene is framed by elaborate engraved scrollwork and smaller champlevé enamel accents in blue, green, and orange, exhibiting a Rococo Revival aesthetic. The interior surfaces are gilded. Visible markings on the interior of the lid include “13” (or “LB”), an indistinct “300” or “800” (consistent with 800 silver content), and “D.R.P.” (Deutsches Reichs-Patent). The base interior displays “16” and further indistinct hallmarks.
