Lot 26:
A Pair of Carlton Ware 'Persian' Vases
Description
A pair of Carlton Ware ‘Persian’ vases, baluster-shaped ceramic, featuring extensive polychrome and gilt orientalist decoration on a deep cobalt blue ground. The design depicts stylized temples or pavilions amidst palm trees, flowering foliage, and wading birds (likely cranes or herons), creating a rich, exotic landscape. The base of one vase bears a black printed mark with a crown and a bird, identifying the manufacturer as “CARLTON WARE, STOKE ON TRENT, MADE IN ENGLAND”, alongside a gold printed six-pointed star enclosing an architectural motif, surmounted by the word “PERSIAN”. Additional handwritten numbers “M”, “2887”, and a faint “110” are also present.
