A Collection of Vintage French Manicure and Self-Care Implements
Description
A collection of vintage French manicure and self-care implements, presented on a red, molded plastic or bakelite tray. The assortment includes two velvet-covered cases with blue silk linings; one hexagonal and empty, the other rectangular, containing small metal tools such as scissors, awls, and various other implements with bone or ivory handles. Numerous loose tools crafted from wood, bone/ivory, metal, and mother-of-pearl are present, comprising darning implements, crochet hooks, bodkins, and various bobbins or spools. Specific items include multiple darning mushrooms/eggs (some wooden, one mottled brown/cream), two thimbles (one coral-colored synthetic, one wooden with a metal end), and a small glass vial. A dark green circular disc with an etched floral pattern is also visible. Noteworthy text on a mending card reads “LINGERIE MENDING No 4 LATEST FASHION ASST HANDY” and “MADE IN ENGLAND, ” with another small round label also stating “MADE IN ENGLAND.”
