A Worcester Blue and White Tea Bowl, Decorated in the 'Plantation' Pattern, Circa 1758-60
Description
A Worcester Blue and White Tea Bowl, decorated in the ‘Plantation’ pattern, circa 1758-60. The small, round ceramic bowl features extensive underglaze blue motifs in a European Chinoiserie style. The exterior depicts an imagined landscape with various vessels including an urn, a tall-lidded ewer, a pitcher, and a teapot, set among dense foliage. The interior base contains a single blue floral spray, and the rim is edged in a narrow blue band. A distinct blue crescent moon symbol is visible on the unglazed footrim of the base.
