Lot 211:
A Pair of Doulton Lambeth Salt-Glazed Stoneware Salt and Pepper Pots, Dated 1879
Description
A pair of Doulton Lambeth salt-glazed stoneware salt and pepper pots, dated 1879. The set comprises a lidded jar/pot, likely a salt cellar, with a metal rim, and a shaker, likely a pepper pot, with a perforated brass or similar metal top. Both pieces are intricately decorated with relief-molded, incised, and applied patterns of stylized leaves or petals, rendered in dark blue, olive green/brown, and cream glazes with white dotted accents. The bases of both items are clearly marked “DOULTON LAMBETH” with the factory stamp and dated “1879”. They also bear what appear to be artist’s initials “P.E.” or “P.G.” and potentially a decorator’s initial “O”. The shaker further includes a production code “c/13”.
