Moorcroft 'Lamia' Pattern Jug, 'Water Lilies and Bullrushes' by Rachel Bishop, circa 1995
Description
A Moorcroft ‘Lamia’ pattern jug, designed by Rachel Bishop circa 1995, decorated with water lilies, irises, and bullrushes. The slender glazed ceramic ewer displays a distinct Art Nouveau or Arts and Crafts aesthetic, featuring tube-lined naturalistic motifs including yellow irises, white water lilies, and brown cattails. These are rendered against a background that graduates from a pale yellow-green to a deep blue-green, evoking a pond environment. The base is marked ‘MOORCROFT,’ ‘MADE IN ENGLAND,’ with handwritten ‘WM’ initials, and additional stylized marks in green and blue.
