Lot 178:
A First Period Worcester Porcelain Kempthorne Pattern Tea Cup and Saucer, c1770
Description
A First Period Worcester porcelain tea cup and saucer, decorated in the Kempthorne pattern. The polychrome enamel decoration features predominantly orange-red, cobalt blue, and green floral motifs, including stylized blossoms and foliage, executed in a style reminiscent of Japanese Kakiemon or Imari ware. Both the cup and saucer exhibit concentric blue rings on their bases, alongside a distinct blue square mark containing an ‘X’ or cross. A handwritten sticker on the saucer bears the text ‘Hisashi’, ‘E.3863’, and ‘C.1765’.
