Art Nouveau French Jeweled Metal Repoussé Box, Attributed to Alfred Daguet
Description
An Art Nouveau French jeweled metal repoussé box, attributed to Alfred Daguet. This rectangular lidded box is constructed from a silver-toned base metal, possibly pewter, and exhibits an aged, dark grey patina. The lid is embossed with an intricate, swirling design resembling foliate motifs or Celtic knots, centered by an indistinct decorative element, and accented with four orange cabochon stones. The four sides of the box feature a repeating relief pattern of similar intertwining designs, set with alternating orange and turquoise-blue cabochons. The hinged interior is lined; the lid has a dark green textured material, while the two compartments are lined with a reddish-brown textured material, likely leather or a similar substitute. No visible manufacturer’s marks or text are present.
