Lot 169:
A Pair of Antique English Sterling Silver Footed Open Salt Cellars with Cobalt Glass Liners
Description
A pair of antique English sterling silver open salt cellars, each featuring a removable dark blue cobalt glass liner. The sterling silver holders are designed in a classical or Rococo revival style, with one example displaying a scalloped rim. Both cellars are supported by decorative shell-form feet. Visible hallmarks on the underside of one piece confirm the material as sterling silver, including a lion passant, a crowned leopard’s head indicating the London assay office, a date letter (possibly ‘L’ or ‘P’), and an obscured maker’s mark (e.g., ‘JG’).
