A Pair of Chinese Gilded and Lacquered Wood Trays
Description
A pair of shallow East Asian lacquered wood trays, comprising one circular and one octagonal example, both predominantly finished in red lacquer. The circular tray’s interior depicts a traditional architectural scene with figures and trees in black, gold, and green. The octagonal tray’s interior features multiple ornate figures, possibly deities, rendered in gold against the red background. The undersides of both items display natural wood grain. The octagonal tray’s base bears red painted characters “壽初” (Shòu Chū – ‘Initial Longevity’ or ‘First Longevity’) and a smaller black inscription “永春堂” (Yǒng Chūn Táng – ‘Eternal Spring Hall’ or ‘Perpetual Spring Studio’). A small white sticker marked “2255” is affixed to the rim of the circular tray.
